This very site has an article on child modeling which every parent considering it should read. It wouldn't hurt if they read the other articles as well. There is a link to the "articles" page at the top of the forum index. The article on child modeling is at the link below.
Last time I was in Houston it wasn't encouraging. There are some real model agencies there, but the Houston market is so small for models that they supplement their income by strongly pushing classes at the schools that are associated with them. Model school classes are a bad idea for anyone, but especially for kids. Still, that's the price you have to pay to be in the agency - and once in, the chances of making enough money to pay for the classes is very slim.
