Seemed like a good idea. Make a screensaver to promote a
model and her management company. Take a few images and
run them together. A snap!
Although the screensaver is small (mine is about 3 megs)
it is a drain on internet bandwidth. So I look into having
it available on a different server. It seems a lot of
sites that host screensavers add extra programs to the download
file. These are usually adware/spyware. A lot of
screensavers are untrusted for that reason.
I settled on tucows.com since they test software for virus,
adware, etc. before allowing it as a free download on their
site. I discovered this can take a long time. You can speed
up the process by paying for priority testing. I also discovered
that some sites for free download do not host the download but
only provide a link to your site for the download. A few sites
charge a fee to have your free software on their site.
The screensaver went online early this year. There is a link
to my site and I have gotten a few visits. (One from Poland!)
The software is in the top half in popularity but not in the
top 100.
This effort hasn't helped the model.
